Photos & Highlights from the Last Few Weeks!

Hello families and friends,

Greetings from Bolivia! We’re excited to share a backlog of photos from the last few weeks including our time in La Paz/El Alto,  Isla del Sol, Machu Picchu, Choquequirao, Cusco, Paru Paru, and Urubamba.

Some highlights from the gallery:

  • lxs dragoncitxs salsa dancing at Teatro Trono in El Alto, Bolivia.

  • going to see las cholitas luchadoras fight and then getting to meet and have dinner with two cholitas (gracias Benita y Elisabet!).

  • Luci buying a lucha libre mask and bouncing back and forth across the ring.

  • Spending our downtime rock climbing in the gym that’s housed within our hostel in La Paz (Larkin’s first time rock climbing!).

  • Learning about how to decolonize our bodies at Teatro Trono.

  • Traveling La Paz/El Alto via cable cars.

  • Enjoying some delicious ramen — not just once, but twice!— in La Paz.

  • Spending a few beautiful, restful sunny days at Isla del Sol for our Midcourse.

  • The skits the dragoncitxs put on to review what we’ve experienced so far this semester 🙂

  • Speeding across Lake Titicaca (putting Gaby at an 11/10 emotionally as a total water-lover)

  • Jakob, Soumya, and Rishi making up songs while Zia played a beat on the guitar as we zoomed across the lake.

  • Listening to Lucho share his Roots & Shoots (sharing about significant people, places, and events in his life that have shaped him).

  • Viewing the majesty of Machu Picchu through the fog and mist and having it mostly to ourselves due to train issues keeping the hordes of other tourists from arriving.

  • Sliding, sweating, and slogging our way through the Choquequirao trek —sister to Machu Picchu— that continues to be one of the students’ greatest highlights.

  • The curly hair crew enjoying a DELICIOUS vegan food cart in the Mercado Central in Cusco

  • Learning about traditional weaving, dying, and textiles from the community in Paru Paru

  • Planting native potatoes and learning about the importance of decolonizing our agricultural system and our minds in Paru Paru

  • Learning how to make adobe and getting our feet muddy in Paru Paru while engaging in natural building

  • Celebrating the end of our time in Urubamba with a big celebration with our homestay families

  • Sharing what we’ve learned in our ISPs – weaving, cooking, charango, silversmithing, herbalism and salsa

Please enjoy this glimpse into our little world here. Until next time!
