Hola familias!
Our dragoncitxs are doing beautifully in this peaceful, small town of Urubamba that is our home for these nearly-two weeks. Every morning we wake up surrounded by incredible, lush, green mountains and we have been very fortunate to enjoy many sunny days here in the Valle Sagrado. It has been a real treat!
Some highlights of our time here have been visiting an organic farming project called Canastas Verdes, where Gabriela pretended to be a goat. We also did karaoke one night (Jakob’s first time doing karaoke ever!), began learning how to make rings and pendants at the silversmithing ISP (Lauren, Isaac, Talia), began learning how to weave (Larkin, Jakob, Gabriela, Luci), dance salsa & bachata (Natalie and Ava), learned how to cook (Tucker) and began learning how to play the charango, a traditional string instrument from the Andes (Zia, Sam, and Katya).
Last night we had our first student-led N.U.Q.A.K.U.N.A meeting, which is a weekly group meeting facilitated by our student leaders, which concluded with the passing of the torch (or in this case, the ceremonial passing of Puputi, our new crocheted llama mascot) from our first leaders, Katya (the “Dictator”) & Lauren, to our second leader pair, Tucker and Talia! We are excited to see all of our students take on this role at some point in the semester.
Please enjoy the photos from our first two weeks (including our time in the coast and in Cusco). We hope to share more student Yaks in the days ahead!
Warmly,
the Instructor Team
