SETTLING INTO PATAN

Written by Samantha and Kilani’s Instructors

After nearly a week in Patan, the group is starting to build a nice routine. Here’s a little snapshot from this Monday:

  • Our first breakfast crew of four students went shopping for ingredients and cooked chocolate pancakes and eggs for the group

  • Nepali language class topics included hours of the day and lengths of time

  • We nearly finished sharing everyone’s personal ‘life maps’

  • The delicious group lunch included Nepal’s classic dal bhat and a very well received pork curry

  • In the afternoon everyone dispersed to their different Independent Study Project sites across the city and enjoyed a bit of personal time exploring Patan’s many alleyways and courtyards

  • Everyone returned in the evening to their homestays and enjoyed dinner and some quality time with their host families

Over the weekend, the group also made an excursion to the village of Gundu on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley to visit a permaculture farm and learn about sustainable agriculture and development in the context of Nepal, and on Tuesday enjoyed a walking tour focused on Patan’s cultural heritage. A few photos are attached 🙂
