VILLAGE LIFE IN TEMENTO

The Instructors from Senegal Program

We’ve spent almost a week in Temento Samba now, and its been so special to get to know, especially since it’s the home village of our instructor, Samba. Students have been spending lots of time with their homestay families as well as starting on their ISPs, and Djembe lessons from our wonderful teacher, Mamoudou. Some ISPs include tailoring, cooking, learning to play the Kora and Djembe, construction and traditional architecture.

We’ve had lessons in Pulaar and “development” as well as guest speakers and group discussions under the mango trees. We been sung to sleep as well as woken up by donkeys, roosters, as well as the baby goats and sheep that seem to be multiplying by the day. With our limited connectivity we’ve been trying to keep up on our yakking. Students have spent time with their host moms at the community garden or “worta” , as well as in the fields or “ngeesa” with their host fathers and host brothers – some even are getting personalized attaya (tea) delivery from small host siblings. Overall, things are going well as we all adjust to this wonderful community and the pace of life here.
