A TRANSITION FROM KEDOUGOU TO KOLD

By Instructors Christy, Samba, & Espoir

Hello everyone,

A few days back, on March 11th, the group left the rolling hills of the Kedougou region to travel west to Velingara, where we took a moment to focused internally as a group, to revisit our group norms and communication patterns, and to have fun and laugh with each other under the shade of the mango trees. We also started learning the subtleties of another dialect of Pulaar language, shifting from Pula Fouta to Fula Kunda. On the 13th we continued further west to Kolda, where the group has been exploring the vibrant local market and continuing a bit of group processing, with the whole group coming together to recommit to making the most of the precious days that we have left together here in Senegal.

Tomorrow we will travel a half hour south of Kolda to our rural homestay in Temanto Samba, the natal village of Samba. The group is looking forward to meeting their second homestay families, diving into independent study projects (ISPs), and shifting back into a more independent moment of the course. We will still be meeting each day to check in, do lessons, and go on excursions to local sites of interest. We will not have much network during the coming two weeks, but we will do our best to post Yaks and photos as our internet access allows. We will be staying in the village for about two weeks and are planning to travel back to Thies on March 29th.

Thanks to you all for following along on our journey. We’re sending love to you all!

With care,

Christy, Samba, & Espoir
