a letter from the executive director

Happy New Year from Carpe Mundi!

Here from our office in Portland, we’re blown away that we’ve reached the year 2020, and we’re preparing to send students off into the world for the 8th year in a row! Whether you’ve been with us from the start with the Aleph cohort in 2013, or you’re new to the organization, we hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that your year is off to a promising start.

As 2019 has now come to a close, we wanted to take a few minutes to share with you some of Carpe Mundi’s highlights from 2019.

alumni spotlight: kervencia limage

The 99 Carpe Mundi alumni are out in the world doing incredible things! Right now, we’re cheering on Kervencia from the Dharma cohort, who traveled to South America in 2016. She was recently crowned Ms. Oregon of the United States of America, and in February she’ll travel to Las Vegas to compete for the Ms. United States of America crown. In addition to her stellar efforts to enter the pageant scene, Kervencia is working on finishing her psychology degree at PSU, works at Kaiser as a nutrition aid, and is becoming certified as an esthetician. She has also started a free school in Haiti with her sister, and is funding an education for 45 students. We are blown away by her dedication to make a positive impact on her community in Portland and abroad, and admire her continuing to push her comfort zones and expand her horizons. Learn more about Kervencia in this article by the Clackamas Review.
