Carpe Mundi provides low-income, first-generation Portland college students with a year-long mentorship and scholarship program that includes an experiential education study abroad semester.

Since 2009, Carpe Mundi has worked with 62 low-income Portland college students, supporting them during an entire school year, including a semester abroad through our partner organization, Carpe Diem Education. Students receive academic and logistical support, do local internships and service work, and travel abroad to one of five locations: Central America, East Africa, India, South America, or Southeast Asia. Carpe Mundi connects students to their education in a completely different way, increasing the likelihood that they'll graduate from college and be change makers in their own community.

To the Friends and Community of Carpe Mundi,

“Wisdom is knowing you have the right things in your life, and knowing why.”

- William Stafford

In this regard and speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and current and former students, we are wise beyond knowing. Since 2012, Hansell Bourdon has guided Carpe Mundi with equal parts patience, perseverance, and deep passion for the lives of each and every one of the students that have crossed the threshold at Carpe Mundi. And it is from this place of deep respect for her work that I share of the leadership transition that is currently underway. Hansell will be stepping down from the Executive Director role effective March 23, to start a new chapter in her life as a mom. We couldn’t be more excited for Hansell and Mac as they await the delivery of their child. As Hansell explains below, however, we are fortunate in that we will not be losing her entirely! Equally, we are fortunate that Carpe Mundi will continue to be in capable hands with Rachel Anderholder stepping into the role of Executive Director. I have had the benefit of working alongside Rachel for the last nine months in planning for this transition and am supremely confident that the organization will continue to thrive with Rachel at the helm. The future is indeed bright for Carpe Mundi!

Thank you for your ongoing and dedicated support. We couldn’t do this without you!

Rick Thomas

Thanks for supporting at the 6th Annual Auction "Time to Shine"

A huge thanks to everyone that came out to support at our 6th Annual Auction and Gala "Time to Shine"! We had a fantastic evening, celebrating and hearing from our students and alumni, listening to live music, and bidding on auction items from across the globe! Thanks to all who turned out for helping us reach our goal for the night, including our volunteers and sponsors!
